Initial Material Handling
Raw gypsum can be either natural gypsum (mined from the earth) or synthetic gypsum like FGD (flue-gas desulfurization) gypsum. After delivery, the material is inspected and stored in silos or open yards. Front loaders or conveyors transport the gypsum to the crushing section.

Crushing and Screening
Lump gypsum is fed into a primary crusher, where it is broken down into smaller fragments. The material may then pass through a screening system to remove oversized or undersized particles. Consistent particle size at this stage facilitates even grinding.

Grinding Process
The next phase is grinding. Crushed gypsum is processed through a grinding mill to create a fine powder. This grinding stage is critical, as uniform particle size ensures a smooth calcination process and predictable product behavior.

Calcining Unit Preparation
Ground gypsum is conveyed to the calcination system. Feeders and pre-heating units regulate material flow into the calciner, ensuring a steady and controlled rate. Additives may be introduced at this stage to modify the gypsum's properties, depending on the final application.

Calcination and Cooling
During calcination, gypsum is heated to around 150°C–180°C to remove a specific amount of water. This process converts the dihydrate form into hemihydrate, which is the reactive form used in plasters and wallboards. The hot stucco is then cooled using a fluid bed cooler or indirect air cooling system.

Final Processing and Storage
The cooled gypsum powder is transferred to storage silos. From there, it can be blended with additives or directly packaged for sale. The powder is tested for fineness, setting time, and moisture content to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
