Gypsum Board Machinery

Gypsum board machinery encompasses the equipment used to manufacture flat panels composed of a gypsum core enclosed between paper facings. These boards serve as wall and ceiling panels in residential and commercial buildings.

Forming Line Components
A typical gypsum board forming line includes a face paper unwinding section, a gypsum slurry mixing station, headbox, forming section, and tail paper application. The face paper unwinder feeds continuous sheets of paper onto which the gypsum slurry is deposited. The headbox distributes the slurry evenly across the lower paper sheet.

Setting and Cutting
As the board moves along the forming conveyor, the slurry between the paper layers begins to hydrate and set. After an initial setting period, the board enters a cutting unit that scores or fully cuts the continuous panel to specified lengths. Cutting knives and blades are adjustable to accommodate different board sizes.

Drying and Calibration
Cut boards proceed to a drying oven, where controlled temperature zones gradually remove moisture. The drying chamber typically features multiple zones with progressively higher temperatures. After drying, the boards pass through sizing rollers or a calibration section to ensure uniform thickness and a smooth surface.

Stacking and Packaging
Finished boards are conveyed to a stacking station, where they are automatically aligned and piled. Strapping machines secure the stacks, which are then prepared for storage or dispatch. Optional processes include edge profiling, where beveled edges are formed for joint treatment.

Automation and Control
Modern machinery incorporates PLC-based control systems, allowing operators to adjust speeds, slurry flow rates, and oven temperatures via an HMI interface. Sensors along the line monitor board moisture and alignment, ensuring minimal downtime and consistent output.

Maintenance and Safety
Regular maintenance of mixers, conveyors, and cutting units is essential to prevent blockages and ensure smooth operation. Dust extraction systems and safety guards protect workers from airborne particles and moving parts.
